Greenland has been
turned upside down in its development, and that is true in
every area. From an economic point of view, we had to make
up for lost time, and get closer to the level of Europe.
This was done in a very short time, and much too fast. Many
people were unable to keep up. The people were hunters and
fishermen, and were not prepared for this.
Since the 90s,
there has again been education in the Danish language, with
Danish methods. As a matter of fact, there are no books in
Greenlandic with which to educate and shape the population.
If we want to progress, it will have to be done using other
languages.
Two
large ships dedicated to the exploitation of oil arrived in
the port of Aasiaat more than two weeks before they had
received the authorisation of the government of Greenland.
Once the development of of oil begins, our coasts which
until now are protected will be under the threat of future
pollution from an oil spill.
The people from here have no desire to go and live in a
large town, and even less to live in an apartment. They want
to continue with their activities. To do so, they need a
place to keep their tools, their fishing equipment, their
hunting gear, and that of course, you dont find within four
walls in a building. |
