The purpose
The purpose of this project is to make the public and
Governments aware of the environment and global warming, by
means of human exploits, and testimony from the heart of one
of the last fragile landscapes on our planet.
The project
This expedition, the first
of a series of Arctic voyages by sea kayak, will provide a
photographic account, produced during the summer months from
end of may to mid-September, of a coastal route of close to
600 nautical miles long (1100 kilometers) between the towns
of d’Upernavik at 72°47’ north, and Ilulisat in the bay of
Disko, at 69°13’ north.
The trip will be achieved by
two individuals, using two sea kayaks. This method of
transport, a true return to basics, will allow us to make
the voyage totally autonomously, with the aim photographing
our daily life, and to report on the views and opinions of
the Inuit people about the condition of their land, the
changes they have noted, and the fears they have for the
future relating to their environment.
I n order to achieve this, the observations, remarks and
stories collected during our visits to villages and outposts
will be meticulously recorded. By means of this approach,
our photos will be reported in various forms, our intention
being to communicate through different media outlets –
reviews, newspapers, magazines and the web - exhibitions of
large format photographs, with full written descriptions of
the subject, as well as at the very end of our Arctic
voyages, the production of a book entitled “Temoignages”
(“Eye Witness Report”)
